The AFL today has launched a new leading careers and networking platform to guide female AFL players in the world of sport and business, with the hopes to extend to all sporting codes in the near future.
Workplay is an online and industry first for Australian women’s sport, created to provide a network for female athletes to connect with like-minded organisations, find flexible employment, education and career development opportunities that accommodates their full-time sporting commitments.
But workplay has been created for much more, offering the chance for the AFLW women to create lasting connections with their peers, hear from industry experts and share their own experiences living the life between work, education and sport at the highest level.
With a seemingly unlimited number of partners and outlets, workplayis buying in at just the right time, with the growth of women’s football exploding across the country.
AFL Executive General Manager Customer and Commercial Kylie Rogers said workplay provided partners with a great opportunity to reinforce their support for women’s football and tap into a highly skilled talent pool, creating a perfect balance between work and play.
“The AFL is thrilled to launch workplaywhich strengthens our continued commitment to progress women’s football across all levels and offers another avenue for our female talent to achieve their goals on and off the field,” Ms Rogers said.
“Our partners share in our vision of providing the right tools and environment to empower women to reach their potential.”
Workplay’saim is to give their female athletes the chance to fit into any workplace at any time and the newly launched website shows how easy it can be.
The workplaysite includes the athlete and organisation tabs, but also shares relevant articles and media that can help build a CV, teach interview skills, or just get the athletes started on a path of interest.
And the most exciting part is that it’s already worked wonders for some of the young stars of the AFLW game.
Collingwood’s Chloe Molloy, who is a news cadet with Fox Footy, is already using the website the hone in on her skills.
“I’m utilising the workplayplatform to help develop my professional and personal skills further,” Molloy said.
And now, with the AFLW on the brink of completing the AFLW competition, with the addition of the final four women’s sides, workplay has chosen the best time to take the lead alongside an already impressive and sustainable AFLW group.
AFL General Manager Women’s Football Nicole Livingstone believes that with the expansion of the competition, this is the right time to invest and give back to the pioneering AFLW players long term futures.
“The AFL is committed to investing in the long-term sustainability of women’s sport and through the establishment of workplay, we hope to continue to be leaders in this space to ensure women athletes thrive on and off the field,” Ms. Livingstone said.
The online platform is available to all AFLW players with the hope and aim of expanding to all women across all sporting codes in Australia
