AFL Victoria: Anzac Day Jumper Program

Almost 80 community football clubs across Victoria will don a commemorative ANZAC Day jumper this weekend, as part of the RSL Victoria’s ANZAC Appeal Community Football Jumper Program. Anna Pavlou reports.

The annual program is a community-based initiative, designed to reinforce and build new relationships between local RSLs and their community football clubs.

Appeals Manager of RSL Victoria, Peter Smith OAM notes how important the ANZAC Appeal Community Football Jumper Program is to all parties involved.

“It’s a way of sharing with community footy teams the same pride in wearing that ANZAC Appeal logo,” said Smith.

The program, now in its third year, raises vital funds for RSLs, which support current day services men and women as well as veterans of war. It also supports each club who is involved.

“It’s a real credit to the clubs who want to wear that mark and want to display it with pride,” Smith said.

With the help of TLA, all clubs designed a jumper that encapsulates the spirit of ANZAC and the connection created between RSLs and their football clubs.

“We want the local RSLs to build relationships with their local football clubs and we want that to be an enduring relationship,” he said.

The near 80 teams participating will wear their specially designed jumpers and conduct commemorative services across the ANZAC weekend, commencing Saturday April 21.
